Welcome to Unexpected Perfection! I’m Lisa. Educator by day, special needs parent, wife, and chaos coordinator the other 24 hours! I have been a teacher for 17 years. Most of my experience has been with students learning to speak English. These students come from rich cultural backgrounds, and I have had the privilege of working with them and their families. Currently, I work with Migrant students. The majority of my job is working on curriculum and finding the best resources to reach this unique group of students.
I always said I could never be a special education teacher. That it required too much patience that I didn’t possess. Haha! Who got the last laugh on that one! Enter Sophia, soon followed by Emma! Patience is still a work in progress, but this parenting gig has shown me how to slow down and appreciate what is in front of me. To appreciate the little victories, because they do come, and boy when they do, they are so sweet.
The plan for this blog is to allow you a glimpse into a family raising a child with Down syndrome. I also hope to encourage parents in the thick of parenting to keep laughing and enjoy the tiny moments. Take a deep breath, grab a cup of coffee, and stay awhile. I’m glad you’re here!
